Right for You?

“To go to law, is for two persons to kindle a fire at their own cost, to warm others, and singe themselves to cinders: and because they cannot agree to what is truth and equity, they will both agree to un-plume themselves, that others may be decorated with their feathers.”
- Feltham

What Situations Make a Good Mediation Prospect?

  • Disputants who are more interested in resolving the issues than in destroying the other party. In the case of a divorce, the relationship with the ex-spouse and the children will last many years and events (activities, graduation, college, marriage, grandchildren) beyond the dispute. Resolving the dispute so that "life after the divorce process" can become normalized - the sooner the better - should be the goal.

  • Disputants who are involved in a "continuous relationship" - partners, employers and employees, husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, neighbors, organizations, etc.

What Situations Make Poor Mediation Prospects?

  • Disputants who want to destroy the other party (emotionally and economically).

  • Disputants where there is an un-resolvable power imbalance, molestation, and/or extreme abuse.
